With great sadness, CEBO has learned of the passing of our former colleague Joop Rutten, at the age of 74.

Joop joined CEBO in 1976, coming from the Kalkzandsteenfabriek, and soon became a well-known and valued presence at our site. For a time, he even lived on the premises — in a barrack where our laboratory now stands.

After starting as an operator in the grinding plant, Joop found his place in the Technical Department, where he worked for many years as a metalworker and welder. He was known for his dedication, craftsmanship, and sense of humor — and in CEBO’s early years, he was the driving force behind the staff association. Fishing competitions, moonlight bowling evenings – Joop always knew how to bring people together.

Joop also made an important contribution to the development of CEBO Belgium, the sand-bentonite installations, the mud plant, and many other projects within our company. He was also a familiar face in the warehouse, where he worked alongside colleagues Jan Struiksma, Cees Auperlé, and Hans Dubbelaar — and where there was always time for a cup of coffee.

With Joop’s passing, CEBO loses a respected former employee who has left a lasting mark on our company’s history and in the memories of his colleagues.

We extend our sincere condolences to his wife Astrid, his children, grandchildren, family, and friends, and wish them strength in this difficult time.
